Twitter: To Twit or Not to Twit, That is the Question

Wednesday April 29, 2009
So the current rage in our office is about the new web 2.0 service called Twitter. Twitter basically is an internet site that allows you to update your activities, whatever that may be, and share it to the world or just a group of friends. A few of the people in our office have started to do it and it does promise some funny responses between friends! It seems like this may just be another technological phase, but it is very fun with your friends. Will twitter die out? Will twitter amount to nothing but a fad? All we know here is that we're loving it because it's bringing us some extra laughs!

A Day in the Life of a Team Member: The Masha Keylin Stories

Thursday April 23, 2009

Hi my name is Masha Keylin (aka “Mosh, mashmash”). I’ve been working at the LOVELY Campus Events and Visitors Services as a marketing intern for over a year now, and I’ve definitely grown to love this little community on the fourth floor of the MU. This job has provided me with an array of work experience. Essentially, I started out working on a Returns on Investment project, and now I’m on a completely different track planning familiarization tours and creating a Meetings Facilities Guide. Wow-it’s strange to think how far I’ve come in just over a year! Hmm…let’s see….something about me: I’ve been ballroom dancing for about 10 years now, and I’m currently choreographing a Cha Cha piece for a ballroom club on campus! However, the biggest reward from dancing came just a few days ago when my fellow intern Kevy, called me a “Dancer”. It’s a completely different feeling when you know you’re a dancer than when somebody actually acknowledges the fact. Anyway, Kevy rocks and so do all my other fellow interns, so in the words of Mr. Long-blow it uP!

Office Word of the Day: Anticipate

Tuesday April 21, 2009

Having the ability to anticipate any obstacle in front of you is key to being able to be very successful in whatever profession or activity that you use. You have to expect the unexpected. Today's office word of the day is ANTICIPATE. It is defined by Webster's Dictionary as the ability to: to foresee and deal with in advance. In the event planning and management profession, we have to anticipate any problems or requests you may have for us. It is our job to be the expert and proceed to make your conference or event a stress free process where the work falls on our shoulders not yours. UC Davis Campus Events and Visitor Services has to anticipate your needs because for you we want to hit a home run every time you throw something at us.

Office Word of the Day: Perspective

Tuesday April 14, 2009

PERSPECTIVE is defined by Webster's Dictionary as: the interrelation in which a subject or its parts are mentally viewed. The Scoop on Being More Green: LEED

Thursday April 9, 2009

At UC Davis we're striving to be more green. Here at UC Davis we are striving to be 75% green by 2012, and 100% green by 2020. It's a goal we take much pride in and we hope that we'll be able to obtain them.

As people in the event planning business, we at CEVS understand that in this day and age being green is important, so we are incorpoarting "green" news in our blog. Today we're going to talk about Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED. LEED is green buidling grading system that keeps your organization on point for today's green standards. Obtaining a LEED certificate is no easy feat, with only 13 certified hotels in the United States, it shows that there are many regulations you must meet in order to receive this prestigious award.

Gaining a LEED certificate requires: architects, managers, workers, and other represenatatives of your organization to meet prior to the building of your facility, making it well known that you are striving toward a certificate that will require participation from all prospective employees. Please feel free to click on the title of this entry to be fowarded to the actual coverage of LEED for more specific details and explanations. We all should be "LEEDers" in this generation, focusing on our environment and protecting the planet in which we live on.

A Day in the Life of a Team Member: The Aaron Long Stories

Friday April 3, 2009

Helloooo world! My name is Aaron Long and I am one of the team members here at UC Davis Campus Events! I'm really excited to be on the blog and I'm really excited to connect with all of you out there, as well as tell you about our services and what we can do for you.

First off, I'm from Los Angeles, California (shout out to LA!), and I am now pursuing my undergraduate degree in Sociology and English here at UC Davis. I have been working for the university for over a year now so I have my footing and luckily I was given the chance to transfer from Human Resources Administration to Campus Events and Visitor Services. The move has been awesome and I couldn't ask for more of a exciting and supportive team to work around : )

As a Marketing Coordinator for CEVS, I am responsible for some of the behind the scenes work to make sure our program gets off the ground and running. Here at UC Davis, we are not only an academic institution of excellence but a venue for multiple aspects of business and strive to let you all out there that we are here for you. With event coordinators and some of the top event planners in the business, we are here to help you make your conference, personal event, retreat, or whatever you have in mind, an event to remember!

So now you all know a little bit about me and what we do around here! Until next time!
